One Birth Mom’s Story

This heart for walking alongside birth moms continues through our Christ-centered Fireweed Retreat, which welcomes birth moms from across the country. Women travel to Ohio to be surrounded by others who truly understand their experience. At Fireweed, birth moms are affirmed, embraced, and welcomed into a sisterhood where lasting bonds and mentoring flourish.

One first-time attendee, tears flowing, shared: “I placed my child 10 years ago, and this is the first time ever that someone referred to me as a mother. These are my people!”

Three years after that first retreat, this same mom is now preparing to return to Fireweed as a mentor mom for the 2026 retreat. Her desire is to walk alongside a first-time attendee so that no woman feels unseen or alone. Through relationships like these, Fireweed continues to expand its mentorship ministry far beyond a single weekend gathering.

We have seen again and again that honoring and supporting birth moms naturally honors the child. When birth moms are cared for well, children grow up knowing their story and heritage, while mothers experience God’s redemptive love along this life-affirming journey.
