Christian Covenant Form
For Adoptive Parents
Here at SOFA, we are dedicated to placing children in loving Christian homes. Please prayerfully review this Christian Covenant with your spouse before signing and submitting it.
Rationale: SOFA is committed to finding Christian homes for children in need of adoption.
Vision Statement: A world where adoption transforms hearts, safeguards children, and embraces biological parents and adoptive families through the redemptive love of Christ.
We will realize the vision through:
Acknowledging and supporting the selflessness of biological parents who chose the gift of life
Honoring the willingness of adoptive parents to be entrusted with the gift of life
Encouraging the loving nurture of adoptees
Supporting families always
Providing Christ-centered education and awareness for all
Mission Statement: The mission of Spirit of Faith Adoptions is to provide Christ-centered adoption services including education and awareness. We offer grace, compassion, and support to biological parents, adoptive families, and adoptees as they navigate the lifelong journey of adoption.
God’s design for each of our lives is to welcome us through adoption into His eternal family. “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.” Galatians 4:4-5 (NIV).
God desires for his children to follow Jesus and pattern our lives after Him. It is understood that “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23-27 (NIV). It is in our brokenness that we seek refuge in our relationship with Christ. "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV).
Because we are dependent on God who shows us mercy, we have mercy on others, particularly women and children facing difficult circumstances and unplanned pregnancy. “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 (NIV).
SOFA’s promise to those we serve comes from Romans 12:1-2, 4-5, and 10-13 (NIV):
”And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect…. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other….. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.’
Parents' Statement of Faith and Practice: SOFA understands that a Christian home requires both sound faith and genuine practice.
Regarding sound faith, we want adoptive parents who believe the following:
Jesus Christ is their personal Lord and Savior.
The Bible is the infallible Word of God.
The foundations of the Christian faith as expressed in the Apostle’s Creed.
The importance of active participation in the life of a local church
Christian marriage is the joining of one man (born as a male) and one woman (born as a female) into a lifelong covenant relationship which the Bible calls “one flesh” Genesis 2:24 (NIV)
Regarding practice, we want adoptive parents who will do the following:
Raise their children in a safe and loving environment.
Seek to prevent all forms of violence or abuse in human and family relationships while still upholding proper parental discipline. Ephesians 4:25-29 (NIV); Hebrews 12:7-11 (NIV).
Seek harmony in family relationships between husbands, wives, children and parents. Ephesians 5:21-6:4 (NIV); 1 Peter 3:7 (NIV).
Abstain from any form of family violence including physical brutality, sexual abuse, mental cruelty, neglect, and corporal punishment.
Commit to seeking a life of personal purity and holiness. Ephesians 4:1 (NIV).
Turn away from unwholesome pleasures and worldly values that have a negative influence on children.
Introduce their children to Jesus through personal witness and family participation in a local church.
Those seeking to adopt through SOFA shall provide a letter of reference from their local church pastor.
It is understood that this Christian Covenant for parents is designed to ensure the parents' commitment to raising children in a loving Christian home and to warn against harmful behavior that could negatively impact the family unit. We believe we do these things by God’s grace.
