Pre-Service Adoption Training
Domestic Infant Program:
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services requires all adoptive families to complete at least 12 hours of pre-service adoption training. Spirit of Faith Adoption Agency staff will provide 5 hours of adoptive parent training, during the Orientation meeting at the Spirit of Faith Adoptions main office location @ 3315 Centennial Road, Suite A-1, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. The remaining training information will be presented through on-line courses through Adoption Learning Partners. All families will meet face to face with the Director on their designated training date.

Required Courses:
Adopting the Older Child 2.0 Credit Hrs
Course addresses the challenges and joys of adopting a child older than an infant, highlighting the insights, skills and resources necessary to bring an adopted older child into the family.
Conspicuous Families: Race, Culture, and Adoption 1.5 Credit Hrs
This course is designed to help those who intend to adopt a child of a different race or ethnicity than themselves.
Let’s Talk Adoption: A Lifetime of Family Conversations 2.0 Credit Hrs
This course focuses on a child’s understanding of what it means to be adopted and how it changes as they grow.
The Journey of Attachment 2.0 Credit Hrs
Provides an understanding of the attachment process and the skills necessary to develop a secure attachment with a child.
Finding the Missing Pieces: Helping Adopted Children Cope With Grief & Loss 2.0 Credit Hrs
This course gives strategies and resources to help children express and deal with their feelings of grief associated with being adopted.
Medical Issues in International Adoption 2.5 Credit Hrs
This course provides an overview of common medical issues faced by children adopted internationally.
