Step by Step

Spirit of Faith Adoptions is here to help those facing unplanned pregnancies. We treat each individual with respect and do our utmost to assist you during the adoption process.

Step 1: Please click here to contact us. An adoption coordinator from Spirit of Faith Adoptions will contact you as soon as possible.

Step 2: When you feel ready, an Adoption Coordinator will arrange to meet you at a time and place that is most convenient for you. They will be there to provide information, listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and help to develop a plan for placing your child when you are ready to do so.   They will also present you with adoptive parent profiles for your review. Click here to view Adoptive Parent Profiles

Step 3: If you choose to proceed with planning for an adoption, the Adoption Coordinator will stay in touch and guide you through the process.   The adoption coordinator will help you talk with your parents, if needed, and give you information for additional local support upon request.

Step 4: The Adoption Coordinator will be present to offer emotional support when you meet the adoptive parents and whenever you would like her to attend appointments with you.  The Coordinator can also advocate for additional pregnancy-related medical services or living assistance that you might need, as the law allows in Ohio.

Step 5:  The Adoption Coordinator will contact the hospital in advance where you intend to deliver your baby, so they are aware of the adoption situation. When the father of your child is not involved, the Adoption Coordinator is willing to contact him on your behalf.

Step 6: Prior to the child’s birth, the Adoption Coordinator will arrange for you to meet with an Adoption Assessor which is a licensed social worker, or counselor, in Ohio that will explain parenting options including adoption. This person will also collect medical information that will be provided to the adoptive family. For more information about your rights as a birth parent, please Click here.

Step 7: The earliest that you can relinquish your parental rights in Ohio is a minimum of 72 hours (3 days) after giving birth. A representative of Spirit of Faith will meet with you at your request to help you with the adoptive placement.  This is called the Permanent Surrender.  The Adoption Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the process, including providing an attorney for you if needed or requested.  Spirit of Faith does not require birth parents to appear in court.

Step 8: After entrusting your child to his/her adoptive parents, you will receive photos and written updates within the first few weeks and every few months afterward. The Adoption Coordinator will help to facilitate contact with the adoptive parents.

Step 9: The Adoption Coordinator will continue to follow up with you after the adoption and can assist in finding you a Christian counselor, at your request.

The Adoption Coordinator is your advocate and she will provide you with information.  She will advocate on your behalf every step of the way. The Adoption Coordinator is accessible 24 hours a day and there is no charge to expectant parents for this service. Everyone at Spirit of Faith Adoptions will be praying for you.
